Team,

It’s been two weeks since the Supreme Court’s appalling decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. In a very short period of time, the ground dropped out from underneath so many people who deserve to have control over their reproductive rights.

The answer to what comes next is both difficult and uncertain. Those in need of abortion services face unimaginable decisions with access to the care they need significantly restricted. Many others wonder what will happen if they need such care in the future.

Several states have already implemented restrictions or outright bans on abortions. Here in Virginia, Republicans have pledged to implement a 15-week ban if their party regains control of the General Assembly.

But in this new era of overwhelming uncertainty, I want you to know that I am still fighting as hard as I can to protect reproductive rights for as many people as possible. And I want to share a couple of updates with you.

First is the Women’s Health Protection Act. This bill would codify into law a right to abortion services. It would nullify the Supreme Court’s recent opinion on the matter. The House has already passed the bill, and I am a sponsor in the Senate.

But that isn’t the only thing we can do on this issue. I recently joined several of my colleagues in demanding Google take action to prevent anti-abortion clinics from showing up in search results when people seek information about getting an abortion. These so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" pose as abortion clinics in order to take advantage of people who are looking for legitimate reproductive health care.

Team, we have suffered a devastating setback that is going to harm many people. It’s why I am redoubling my efforts to secure reproductive rights. I really and truly believe this fight is not over. It is not something we can overcome in a matter of days or weeks. But I’ll fight as long and as hard as I need to for you and yours to have the right to make personal decisions about your own health care.

Thank you,

Mark

P.S. My campaign is working hard to elect pro-choice champions here in Virginia, and to expand our majority in the Senate. If you can, please chip in $5 to these efforts todayA blue Senate and a blue House are crucial to this work.
