You may have heard campaigns at the federal level talk about FEC deadlines when they have to report how much they raised in the previous quarter. Those numbers then become publicly available, and people use them to judge the strength of a campaign.

For state and local races here in Iowa, we have a similar deadline, when we must give our fundraising numbers to the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board — and that deadline is this Thursday, July 14.
