John, a few weeks ago the Supreme Court took away our reproductive freedoms. As terrifying as that may be, it is just the beginning.
In 2016, we were called hysterical for warning that Trump's election would be the end of Roe v. Wade. We were told to trust Trump's ultraconservative justices when they promised to respect Roe v. Wade's precedent. And when the Supreme Court's decision leaked, anti-abortion leaders claimed that they would never stop women from accessing birth control or lifesaving abortions.
But, John, if there's one thing we've learned, it's that there's no end to how far these extremists will go. States are already moving to pass even more radical abortion bans – and medical experts are warning that these laws could lead to higher mortality rates. As a nurse and a mom, this is terrifying to watch – but still, this is only the beginning.
With Clarence Thomas' concurring opinion in Roe, all forms of contraceptives, marriage equality, and other LGBTQ rights could be next on the chopping block. These are rights and protections that we've counted on for generations. Americans have made decisions and built their lives around these guarantees. But now out-of-touch extremists in the court could take all of that away with the stroke of a pen.
This fight is about ensuring that everyone has the power to choose their destiny and achieve their own American Dream. That means having kids if and when we want to. It means privacy between us and our doctors. It means loving who we love and getting to honor that love with marriage.
This is a defining moment in our country's history, and we all have a part to play. I promise you, as senator, I will work night and day to protect reproductive freedoms and the civil liberties that we hold dear. I'll do everything within my power to keep our country from sliding backward.
But I won't get to the Senate without grassroots folks like you standing with me. So please, can I count on your donation today? Every single donation helps us build the coalition that we'll need to bring compassion back to Washington.
