Here's the breakthrough we've been waiting for: On Saturday, former White
House counsel Pat Cipollone testified before the congressional committee
investigating the January 6 insurrection.^1 Finally.
The big news comes on the heels of White House insider Cassidy
Hutchinson's smoking-gun testimony last week.^2
The January 6 committee is showing in no uncertain terms that Donald Trump
and his white supremacist MAGA allies planned, promoted, and led a
criminal conspiracy to try to overthrow the U.S. government—and are now
actively working to stop witnesses from testifying about it.^3
Meanwhile, before our very eyes, Trump and his MAGA allies are putting in
place the pieces necessary to attempt a second coup in 2024. Their plan
centers around installing Trump lackeys into offices that oversee
elections in battleground states.^4 And time is running out to stop it.
That's why MoveOn is doing something unlike any other campaign in our
23-year history: running a multimillion-dollar effort to support
state-level candidates who, with our collective help, can defeat MAGA
candidates and stop Trump's coup. And after Hutchinson's explosive
testimony last Tuesday, it's more urgent than ever.

Cassidy Hutchinson was in close proximity to Trump in the days leading up
to January 6, and her testimony was explosive. She testified that:
* Trump knew his supporters were armed to the teeth with AR-15s, Glock
pistols, and even spears fastened on the end of flag poles. She
recounted Trump saying, "I don't f---ing care that they have weapons.
They're not here to hurt me."^5
* Trump gave orders to allow his supporters to keep their weapons. Trump
ordered, "Take the effing mags [magnetic metal detectors] away. Let my
people in!"^6
* Trump tried to lead the armed march to the Capitol—going so far as to
assault a Secret Service agent who forced him to go back to the White
House, saying, "I'm the f--ing president. Take me up to the Capitol
now."^7
John, we cannot let anyone who was involved in the deadly
Capitol insurrection, or those who have spent the last 18 months parroting
Trump's lies about it, run our government. Our democracy hangs in the
balance.
But Trump's current coup plot is well underway. His plan is to install his
cronies as governors and secretaries of state, since these are the
officials who oversee voter registration, certify election winners and
losers, and are even empowered to throw out ballots.^8 When the 2024
presidential election comes, these loyalists will ensure Trump is declared
the winner—no matter the true will of the voters.
Steve Bannon said it outright: "We're taking over all the elections."^9
That's why MoveOn is investing $30 million—the biggest midterm election
investment in our history—in order to stop Trump's white supremacist coup.
