The Moving Wall Vietnam War Memorial is in NJ-11 Until July 11.
Our Vietnam veterans often did not and still do not receive the recognition they deserve for their service and sacrifice. The Moving Wall is a touching tribute to the sacrifices of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and I was honored to join VFW Post 7333, County College of Morris, and local veterans in Randolph to pay my respects at this memorial now on display in NJ-11. Fighting for Affordability
New Jersey families are facing steep prices at the pump and at the grocery stores as disruptions in our supply chain and Putin’s unprovoked war in Ukraine drive global inflation. It is my number one priority to bring relief to my constituents.
This week, I convened a roundtable to hear directly from local residents on the impact that rising prices and supply chain disruptions are having on our small businesses, childcare providers, families, veterans, and public servants like firefighters and teachers. We discussed my work in Washington on affordability and how sharing their experiences is invaluable to helping focus and prioritize these efforts, like the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act and the COMPETES Act.
Moving 14 NJ-11 Community Projects Forward
I am proud to announce that 14 Community Projects I submitted on behalf of NJ-11 are moving forward in this year’s budget process. Securing this funding will bring our tax dollars back to NJ-11 to strengthen our local economy, make our community safer, and improve the quality of life for North Jersey families. The projects include infrastructure investments to improve water quality and mitigate flood risks, healthcare facility upgrades, programs to address the affordability of housing and college tuition, public health support, and funding for law enforcement. You can learn more about all 14 here!
Preventing Gun Violence
For too long, Americans have suffered from senseless gun violence. The attacks over the past few weeks are utterly heartbreaking. That is why as a mother of four children and as an American, I was proud last month to stand up for NJ-11 families by voting for a historic gun violence prevention package. Congress took swift action to enhance background checks, invest in mental health resources, help implement extreme risk protection orders, and support community safety. All of these measures are proven to help prevent violence in our communities.
I joined JBWS President Diane Williams this week to talk about how this law will help prevent intimate partner homicides and protect survivors of domestic abuse. You can watch our full conversation here.
Supporting Veterans
As a Navy veteran, I am constantly working to support those who served. I was thrilled to be back in person with my Veterans Advisory Board to listen to their concerns, what they are hearing from the veterans community and discuss possible legislative fixes to the issues facing our vets.
Thank you to David Pearson from the SOS Vets Stakeholder group and for David Brimmer from the NJ VA Health Care System for presenting yesterday and to my American Legion in Woodland Park for hosting us.
Thanking Our First Responders
First responders throughout NJ-11 work tirelessly to keep us safe and healthy. This week, I gathered police chiefs, fire chiefs, EMS leaders, county sheriffs, prosecutors, and detectives for breakfast to talk about how my office can support them in efforts to secure federal grants and community project funding through our constituent services.
It was wonderful to join the Italian American Police Society’s charity dinner recognizing individuals and organizations who helped provide meals to local hospitals and PPE to first responders during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Continuing Our Efforts to Defend Women’s Freedom
This week, I met with advocates from the National Council of Jewish Women in my Parsippany office. I’m glad to have partners in the fight to protect women’s rights as the Supreme Court rolls back protections for reproductive freedom. Thank you NCJW!
