Hello again,
Whilst appreciating that many people are getting into the swing of their Christmas plans and preparations, we are about to have a very important General Election next Thursday.
It's not just about what sort of future we want for our country but also what sort of person you want to represent you and our community in Parliament.
I believe the choice in Broxtowe is straightforward.
I have won support from people of all parties and none, based on my record of hard work and my moderate, progressive centrist values and principles. I am honoured to be proposed by the hugely well respected local Lib Dem Stan Heptinstall, seconded by a former Green Party voter from Awsworth, nominated by a former Chair of Broxtowe Conservatives and former members of the Labour Party. I am also honoured to have the support of Leave supporters from across the constituency.
This week, 70 former Labour Party officials detailed the appalling anti-semitism in Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party. There is no doubt that the party is in the grip of the hard left extremists and Labour's candidate in Broxtowe is one of them. Yesterday he welcomed John McDonnell, Labour's Shadow Chancellor to Broxtowe. This self confessed Marxist who seeks to overthrow capitalism also has an unhealthy record of joking about "lynching" Conservative MPs, and failing to condemn the foul abuse hurled at moderate Labour MPs by Corbyn supporters. Labour's candidate said he is "desperate" to be your MP. The growing support I have amongst moderate Labour voters is proof that we neither want Mr Corbyn in No 10 nor one of his biggest supporters in Parliament as Broxtowe's representative. I beat him last time and, with your support, I can beat him again.
In an online hustings organised by Stapleford Community Group, (details below) the Conservative candidate began by objecting to HS2 until I pointed out it has cross party support in Broxtowe and is Conservative party policy, at which point he changed his mind and is now backing it. It was yet further poof that he will always toe the party line and do Boris Johnson's bidding, including crashing out of the EU next year without a deal.
Boris Johnson cannot be trusted and will be as disastrous a PM as he was Foreign Secretary. He does, however, have the ability to offend pretty much everyone, whether it's single mothers or Muslim women because of what they choose to wear. Be in no doubt that Boris Johnson's candidate is his man in Broxtowe.
I am the only candidate who can see off the extremes that have gripped the Labour and Conservative Party; I have cross party support to unite people across Broxtowe and I will continue to work hard for everyone.
I hope you will support me next Thursday and if you haven't already please use your Postal Vote to vote for me.
As ever,
Anna

Bramcote Christmas Fayre, Greasley Christmas Market, Kimberley and Beeston Lights
Congratulations to Bramcote's Robert Cleave who opened this year's St Michael's Christmas Fayre. You will recall Robert cycled around the world raising money for Fair Trade.
I also went to the Victorian Christmas Market at St Mary's Greasley which was as good as ever. Kimberley and Beeston switched on their Christmas lights last weekend and I went along to both events. There was a really good turnout and I particularly enjoyed the excellent fireworks at Kimberley and the performances of the children who sang and danced at both ceremonies. Given the popularity of the lights switch ons and the boost they can give to our town centres, I think we can make them even better. If re-elected I will push for more and better events in our town centres which must be focused on working with residents to create great events which everyone can enjoy.

Hustings reveal the choice in Broxtowe
Congratulations to Bramcote College for organising hustings on Monday afternoon. The cancelled Stapleford hustings were re-arranged thanks to the Stapleford Community Group. Richard Macrae and team did a great job live streaming them on Facebook in what I believe is a "first" for Broxtowe. You can watch them here.
I have also done hustings for BBC Radio Nottingham which you can listen to here and I was pleased to attend more hustings at Bilborough College earlier today. Though, as someone who marched with the Anti Nazi League over 40 years ago, I was surprised to be personally labelled an "architect" of the far right movement that has grown since the EU Referendum by Labour's candidate.
Tonight there are hustings at St John's Church in Beeston at 7.30pm. Hope to see you there.

I was honoured that Matthew Parris came to support my campaign. Matthew is a former Conservative MP and is now a leading columnist for The Times and presents Great Lives on BBC Radio 4.
Thank you to everyone who has helped so far and please email me if you would like to join my excellent team of volunteers.
We have more window and garden posters so let me know if you would like one.

3 great reasons to vote Soubry
1. I will continue to work hard for everyone in Broxtowe, as I have done for the last 9 years as your MP.
2. I will continue to stand up to the abuse and threats from the extremists who are poisoning our politics, further dividing our country and destroying British values of tolerance and compassion.
3. I have the support of people of all political persuasions who recognise the work I have done as your MP and the need to have strong, principled and moderate politicians in Parliament. I will continue to represent all my constituents and be your voice in Parliament.

The Lib Dems have stood aside for me in Broxtowe and former Parliamentary Candidate Stan Heptinstall MBE has proposed me; Stan was a long serving Lib Dem Councillor in Bramcote and Stapleford and was Mayor of Broxtowe. My friend Ken Clarke has also declared his support kindly saying he has "always been a huge admirer of her efforts as the MP representing Broxtowe... I will be delighted if she is returned to the next Parliament." I am touched and honoured to have their support.
|
|
Precious Aidoo has always voted Labour and she is one of a number of life long Labour voters who have pledged their support along with Leave supporter Harry Fitch from Stapleford.
|
|
Yvette Lamb is a Labour voter who has pledged her support and I am seconded by former Green voter Sarah Harker from Awsworth.
|
|
I am so pleased Simon Tonks, former Chair of Broxtowe Conservatives, has pledged me his support. Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff, who has previously voted Labour, is now voting for me in this General Election. You can read more about all those who have endorsed me here.
|
|
I am a founding member of The Independent Group for Change. We are a group of former Labour and Conservative MPs who believe in moderate, centrist politics based on the traditions of social democratic Labour and One Nation Conservatives. We have prepared a document setting out our values, principles and core policies in the General Election. You can read it here.
