Global Citizen, Over 40 million Americans are struggling to put food on the table right now. We have to do better. My name’s Barbie and I know what it’s like to live in food poverty. Growing up, I relied on school lunch programs, food stamps that ran out before the month’s end, and the kindness of our neighbors. No family in America should have to live worrying about where the next meal is going to come from. But the food access situation in the US is getting worse, not better. Food banks across the country are struggling to meet the rise in need, and high prices are hitting families hard. I’ve dedicated my life to fighting food poverty – combating the stigmas that shadow this injustice and prevent people from standing up for their rights. Now, in the face of the growing crisis, President Biden is hosting the first US conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in over 50 years – and the US public needs to have their say! |
