Hey Friend --
For the past few weeks, we’ve been calling on Google to stop unnecessarily collecting and retaining location data, which could be used by right-wing state governments to prosecute those seeking abortions–or even by private citizens seeking to sue those who’ve helped with abortion access in Oklahoma or Texas.
Thanks to our collective voices, Google announced a new program to allow users the option to delete their location data when they visit "particularly personal" locations including abortion clinics.
It's a step forward for Google to try to protect our reproductive freedom and privacy, but we have serious questions about how this program will work:
- How will Google identify the locations that trigger data deletion?
- How will users have to request to delete this data – will they be prompted to do so? On what timeline?
- Could a sudden gap in Google’s location data be used as evidence in court against those seeking abortions?
Deleting the location data of users who visit abortion clinics is ultimately inadequate to protect the privacy of those seeking abortions and other reproductive health care. Join us in demanding Google stop collecting and retaining ALL customer location data – by default.
Thanks to the thousands of you who have already signed on. Please forward this email along to family and friends to help us build more grassroots power to pressure Google.
No one should be tracked and targeted for exercising their personal health decisions. We’ve pressured Google into creating this program, and we won’t let them get away with a token change in policy when so much is at stake. Join us in calling on Google to stop retaining customer data by default.
Let's get to it,

We see the irony of asking you to take action on the same platforms we’re fighting to hold accountable, but they are… well… dominant. We have to reach people where they are in order to level the playing field -- and we’re ready to bring the fight right to their own platforms.
