Team,
I’m going to share something with you.
When I was younger, I wasn’t very politically engaged. I felt left out of the political process. Politicians weren’t knocking on my door, they weren’t calling my phone. And so I didn’t believe that it was for people like me.
That changed when I started people doing the work of building a mass movement. Getting in the community, organizing working-class people, and trying to reach people where they are.
So that’s what our guiding vision has been on this campaign since Day 1.
Like other campaigns, we’ve been knocking on doors and making calls to the people who always vote (these are called “supervoters.”) But that’s not all we’ve been doing.
We’ve also been reaching people where they’re at.
We’ve been canvassing workers and customers in discount stores, nail salons, and barber shops. Grocery stores, liquor stores, and cigar clubs.
We went to Chesapeake Beach and canvassed voters right on the water.
I’ve even canvassed outside a jail – yes, a jail – to speak with the loved ones coming to visit the inmates inside.
Whenever we canvass in these public places, the response is always the same: people are receptive because they’re not used to being listened to. They’re not used to their representative asking them what issues they care about. Because nobody else is doing it like this.
Now, early voting has started – and all of these people we’ve met across the district?
We need to make sure that they vote
Chip into our Get-Out-The-Vote Fund to help us do it!
Or, volunteer with us at an upcoming GOTV event!
Thank you so much for all your support. We couldn’t do it without you.
In solidarity,
Mckayla
