Jasmine Headshot

Folks,

This will be one of the longest emails I’ll ever send you, so I’d really appreciate it if you took a few minutes to read the whole thing.

Supporters like you are the heart of our people-powered campaign. I want to give you an inside look at our organizing strategy and show you exactly how we plan to beat Republican Chuck Edwards and win this district.

This is our chance to show everyone watching that we can win this winnable race, and I need to ask you if you’ll chip in $25 to help us hit our July fundraising goal.

Step 1: Listen and focus on results

Shortly after taking office as County Commissioner, I started a meet and greet coffee hour with another Commissioner. At the first event, the first day, a couple approached us and said "Our daughter overdosed two days ago. What are you going to do to make sure no more parents have to go through this?”

I listened to them and we got to work. I helped build a bipartisan coalition and we unanimously passed initiatives to respond to the opioid crisis 7-0. I also heard from working parents who struggled to balance childcare and work. I championed legislation to increase access to early childhood education and provide paid family leave for county employees that passed with 6-1 and 7-0 votes.

All politicians know how to talk (and some, like Madison Cawthorn, know how to lie.) But we need a leader who knows how to listen.

It’s time to deliver for Western North Carolina. And with my record, I’m confident that I can earn the trust of voters in our district to put them first.

Step 2: Talk about real issues

Chuck Edwards shares the same toxic brand of politics as Madison Cawthorn.

Between refusing to acknowledge January 6th as an insurrection and being anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ+, the last thing Edwards wants is to talk about the real issues.

Roe v. Wade was just overturned and marriage equality could very well be next. In these very dark and difficult times, we need a leader that will take action to protect Western North Carolina families.

I will never stop advocating for our district and our values, and the best way I can do that is as NC-11’s Congresswoman. But Chuck Edwards has support from national Republican dark money groups and Trump’s network of donors, so I need your help to even the odds.

Step 3: Organize, organize, organize

I’m an organizer at heart. I believe in the power of person-to-person connection -- it’s how my organization, the Campaign for Southern Equality, defied the skeptics and helped win marriage equality in North Carolina and Mississippi. And years later, it’s how I won election as a County Commissioner even when some people had counted me out.

My team is already organizing in every corner of NC-11. On Saturday, June 18th, we launched our WNC Summer Tour with a team of more than 80 volunteers who were on the doors and phones with us. Now we are building for our July 16 Day of Action, where we’ll be knocking doors in Cherokee, Clay, Transylvania, and Buncombe Counties and calling folks all across the district. The energy here is palpable and it’s our job to build an organizing program that harnesses that to win this race and help elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

When you’re organizing, you learn one thing fast: “red” and “blue” labels miss what’s actually happening in people’s lives and our communities. At the end of the day, folks want better lives and concrete results from their leaders.

This is exactly how you overturn expectations, by going everywhere, talking with everyone, and organizing like everything is on the line.

Can I count on you to chip in $25 or more to help us hit our July fundraising goal, execute our winning strategy, and win this race?
