Welcome to the League!

Dear Friend,

What began as a ‘mighty political experiment’ to help 20 million women carry out their newly won responsibilities as voters in 1920 evolved into a powerful movement of advocacy, civil rights, and social justice that changed our democracy forever.

It's the League of Women Voters. And now you’re part of it.

We’re grateful for your involvement in our mission to protect the freedom to vote. You’re ensuring that every eligible voter has free and fair access to the ballot box, that voters pick our leaders instead of vice versa, and that our elected officials are accountable for their actions.

As we continue to navigate COVID-19 and its variants, your voice has never been needed more. Throughout history, our nation has always carried out fair and safe elections during crises, from the Civil War to the Great Recession. Through it all, the work of the League of Women Voters never stopped.

Friend, you’re embracing the League mission at a critical time. After the attacks on our voting system in 2020, the League stands ready to defend access to the ballot. Through continued civic education, countering mis- and disinformation, and advocating for voting rights, we will build upon the successes and learn from the lessons of the unprecedented 2020 election.

In addition to election and voting rights work, we’re also fortifying our democracy by fighting racial and partisan gerrymandering, reducing the influence of money in our elections, and more. It’s important to note the League is proudly nonpartisan — never endorsing or opposing candidates or political parties — because the freedom to vote is not a partisan issue, it’s an American right.

Thanks again for your commitment to empowering voters and defending our democracy — and ensuring our electorate reflects the wonderfully diverse communities across our country. We’re glad you’re with us!

Onward,
