Together, we must reject Romney’s TRUST Act, which is designed to cut Social Security.

Tell Congress:
Reject Romney’s TRUST Act, which would create a fast-track, behind-closed-doors process to cut Social Security. Any debate about the future of Social Security must be done in the light of day. The American people’s voices must be heard and Social Security must be protected and expanded, not cut.

Friend,
Despite the fog of uncertainty some attempt to create, the economic evidence is clear: Expanding Social Security would boost economic growth.
Without Social Security—one of the most successful federal programs in the history of our country—one out of two seniors would have an income near or below the poverty line. Most retired seniors rely on Social Security for over half of their income.
We must join together and continue the fight to protect and expand our earned benefits.
The latest assault comes from Senator Mitt Romney, who has introduced the so-called “TRUST Act”—a fast-track process to slash Social Security benefits behind closed doors. Specifically, the act sets up an expedited “rescue committee” process for Social Security that would require fewer votes to move forward with benefit cuts. The TRUST Act is nothing more than an extension of the Romney–Ryan plan to cut Social Security—a plan which voters overwhelmingly rejected in the 2012 presidential election.
Sign the petition and tell Congress to reject Romney’s TRUST Act. Tell Congress to protect and expand our earned benefits, not cut them. ([link removed])
Together, we must make clear to Congress that any debate over the future of Social Security must be done in the light of day where the American people can see it, and the American people’s voices can be heard.
We must act soon to strengthen Social Security. Starting in 2035, the Social Security Trust Fund will face a funding shortfall, if nothing is done.
Democrats have proposed plans to protect and expand Social Security, including the Social Security 2100 Act, which would extend the lifespan of the trust fund beyond the year 2100 while expanding benefits for millions of Americans.
This legislation, introduced by Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), has more than 200 cosponsors in the House and would eliminate Social Security’s long-term deficit. To pay for expanded benefits and close the projected shortfall, this important legislation would increase Social Security contributions annually by about 50 cents per week for the average worker and lift the cap on taxable earnings, subjecting earnings above $400,000 to Social Security contributions. Currently, all earnings above $132,900 are untaxed, which means multi-millionaires are paying the same in Social Security contributions as someone earning $132,900. That makes no sense.
At a time when the United States is facing a retirement income crisis, we need to protect and expand Social Security. Too many Americans correctly fear they will not be able to retire without a dramatic reduction in their standard of living.
Romney’s TRUST Act would further destabilize the financial future of millions of U.S. seniors.
Together, we must send a clear message to Congress. Add your name! Tell Congress to reject Senator Mitt Romney’s so-called “TRUST Act.” Tell Congress any debate about the future of Social Security must be done in the light of day. ([link removed])
Thank you for all you do to fight for an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.
