Public Safety Discussion

On Friday, Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and U.S. Representative Angie Craig visited the Scott County Association for Leadership & Efficiency (SCALE) Regional Public Training Facility in Jordan. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor discussed current [ [link removed] ] and future investments in public safety and law enforcement, including an increased State Patrol presence in Minneapolis to address street racing and other violent crime.

The Governor and Lieutenant Governor will continue to work in partnership with cities, counties, and first responders to support crime prevention and public safety.

Governor Walz Announces Application Period Opening for Post-9/11 Veteran Service Bonuses

On Thursday, Governor Walz announced that veterans who served during the Global War on Terrorism can now apply for a bonus payment to recognize their service. The new law includes nearly $25 million for service bonuses to post-9/11 era veterans and Gold Star Families.

Governor Walz Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory and Honor of the Victims in Highland Park, Illinois

Governor Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, immediately until sunset on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in memory and honor of the victims of the senseless act of gun violence carried out on July 4 in Highland Park, Illinois.

*?Gun violence has no place in our society ? whether it?s Illinois or Minneapolis*,? said Governor Walz. *?Our hearts are heavy. We will continue to push for change until everyone is safe at school, in a?**parade**, at the mall, or in the grocery store. Our hearts are heavy. Minnesota stands with the victims and their families and against these senseless acts of violence.?*

*?We cannot and will not accept this, and we will not stop fighting for progress,? *said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. *?What should have been a fun day spent with family and community became a day of immense mourning. My heart goes out to all those who lost a loved one yesterday.?*

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce 900,000 Applications for Frontline Worker Pay

Governor Walz at Frontline Workers Press Conference

On Wednesday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that the state has received over 900,000 applications for frontline worker pay. Governor Walz signed the Frontline Worker Payment program into law April 29, 2022, enabling eligible workers to receive bonus payments for keeping Minnesotans safe and healthy throughout the pandemic.?
