News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

After the onset of the pandemic, more than one in three households with children struggled to put food on the table. Lowering costs, increasing access to wholesome food, and expanding eligibility for free or reduced-price school lunches are some steps we are taking to combat food insecurity.

We acted in 2020 to ensure free school meals were available to all students. This year, we passed the Keep Kids Fed Act, which will ensure continued access to school meals and the return of the Summer Food Service Program, providing nutritious meals to children throughout the summer at no cost. At ctsummermeals.org, you can locate the nearest Summer Meals site to you.

I secured $250,000 in federal funding to launch the Neighborhood Grocery program with Connecticut Foodshare and Forge City Works in Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood. The Neighborhood Grocery will bring fresh foods to Frog Hollow, where these items are less available to residents, whether it be due to their ability to pay or access to reliable transportation.
