Dear neighbor,
I’m pleased to share some good news with you. Members of Congress can submit requests for federal funding to support local projects in their districts through a process known as appropriations. This year, the nearly $24 million in funding I requested for community projects in LA County has been included in the various Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations bills that the House of Representatives will vote on in the coming weeks. If signed into law, these resources will support programs that address homelessness, expand access to health care, lift up our young people, and more right here in our community. While the process is still ongoing, I am pleased my requests made it into the Appropriations Committee bill and will work to ensure this funding goes directly to my district.
The funding includes:
- $7.5 million to help address issues around homelessness, including temporary housing, mental health support, medical care, and job readiness.
- $8.6 million for local environmental projects that focus on fire management, reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and outdoor recreation and conservation.
- $7.5 million for the City of Los Angeles to improve spill prevention and containment at the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, create safe pedestrian walkways, expand access to job training programs, and more.
- $5 million for projects in the South Bay cities to support individuals experiencing homelessness, improve bike path safety, provide college and career support to young people, and more.
- $2.5 million for projects in Santa Monica to support the Santa Monica Behavioral Health Center and the Ready to Succeed college and career accelerator organization.
- $1.4 million for projects in Venice, including for the Venice Family Clinic and St. Joseph Center.
- $2 million for a UCLA climate research project.
- $2.5 million for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing.
For more information about each project, please visit my Community Project Funding webpage here. To see a list of the 10 projects for which I secured funding last year, please click here.
I am so grateful to all these organizations for the heroic work they do, and will work hard to help them get the funding they need to continue making our community a better place.
To keep up with this year’s appropriations process and to receive other relevant updates from my office, please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
