Meet the 2022 New Voices Student Leaders!

The 2022 New Voices Student Leaders Institute starts next week, with 19 students from 10 states joining SPLC facilitators, staff and special guests to press for New Voices legislation in their states. These students represent the full New Voices spectrum, with some students identifying as experienced advocates while others are still learning about student press freedom. Their work kicks off next week, as they work together to learn best practices for advocacy, level up their leadership skills, and develop a strategic plan to be put into place in the coming weeks and months.

Apply now: High school and college press freedom awards

The Student Press Law Center is seeking student journalists to recognize for persisting through tough circumstances to tell a story critically important to their classmates and community.

Examples include taking a stand against censorship or other threats to publishing, pushing back when initially denied public records and/or stories that expose misdeeds, malfeasance or corruption.

The submission deadline for both awards (covering stories published during the 2021-22 academic year) is Aug. 15, 2022.
