Dear John,

Pride month may be over, but there are still many ways to celebrate our community and make a commitment to achieving queer and trans liberation across Virginia!

We hope you’ll join us at one of the many exciting events we have coming up this month. And if you haven’t already, there is still time to snag a ticket for our 19th Annual Commonwealth Gala on August 13th in Richmond!

See you out there!

Virtual Book Reading with Del. Danica Roem & Charley Burton: July 12th

Let’s celebrate transgender authors and their stories! Join us on Tuesday, July 12th from 6:00-7:00 pm for a virtual book reading and Q&A with LGBTQ+ authors Del. Danica Roem and Charley Burton!

BURN THE PAGE is an inspirational memoir-meets-manifesto by Danica Roem about how it’s possible to set fire to the stories you don’t want to be in anymore – whether written by you or about you by someone else – and rewrite your own future, whether that’s running for politics, in your work, or in your personal life.

The Boy Beneath My Skin: A Black Trans Man Living in the South is Charley's story about the many journeys he has taken to become the man that he is today. It is a story of struggle, disappointment, and triumph. It is a story of digging beneath your skin to become whole.

Postcard Parties at Pride: July 10th (Williamsburg) & July 16th (Richmond)

Have you signed one of our new Take Action postcards in support of transgender students and LGBTQ+ equality ? Fill out 1 postcard (or all 4) and Equality Virginia will deliver your postcard to your school board member, Virginia Delegate or Senator, or U.S. Senator!

You can find these postcards at the EV booth July 10th at Busch Gardens Pride Day in Williamsburg or July 16th at Black Pride RVA!

Public Comment Workshops: July 12th & 26th

Want to speak out in support of LGBTQ+ youth at a school board meeting, committee hearing, or on a public comment forum - but don't know what to say? Need some tips and tricks for public speaking? Join Kyleigh Hynes, EV’s Safe Schools Coordinator, at our Public Comment Workshops in July!

On July 12th from 12:00-1:00 pm or July 26th from 6:00-7:00 pm you can learn how to structure your comments, persuasive talking points, tips for speaking, and what to expect at public meetings!

19th Annual Commonwealth Dinner: August 13th

Have you heard? After 3 years apart, the Commonwealth Dinner is back and better than ever on August 13th at the Greater Richmond Convention Center! The event will bring together LGBTQ+ leaders, partners, advocates and community members from across the state to reflect on the work of Equality Virginia and look towards the future of LGBTQ+ rights.

With special performances from local artists, inspiring words from LGBTQ+ partners across Virginia, and an energetic after-dinner dance with more special guests, this is an evening you don’t want to miss! Get involved through volunteering, hosting or sponsoring a table, or by purchasing an advertisement for the program.
