Dear John,
The fact that so many Minnesotans – especially those living in rural communities – are not able to access or afford the health care they need is simply unacceptable. I believe that every single Minnesotan, no matter their zip code or income level, should be able to access high-quality, affordable treatment. And since my first day in Congress, my top priority has been lowering costs and expanding access to health care.
For the past three years, I have worked closely with my colleagues, local health leaders and especially my Rural Health Advisory Council to identify solutions to address the health care disparities that exist in our country. In March, I successfully pushed the Biden Administration to issue an executive order ending the “family glitch,” a longstanding gap in the ACA’s marketplace which left millions of families without access to affordable care. Shortly after that, I was proud to see the House pass my Affordable Insulin Now Act, which would cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35. And I’ve also fought tirelessly to cap out-of-pocket prescription drug spending for older Americans and to allow Medicare to finally negotiate drug prices. Because I know that if you can’t afford your health care, it’s not accessible.
Here are some of the other highlights from this week:
Working to Lower the price of Prescription Drugs
Americans pay more for prescription drugs than any other country in the world. This week, I convened a roundtable to discuss my work to lower the cost of prescription drugs for working families and seniors in #MN02.
Connecting with Family Farmers
Connecting with family farmers and hearing about the support they need from Congress is vital to helping them with the stewardship of their land and our local Ag economy. Thanks to my Farmers Advisory Council members for meeting with me this week!
Focusing on Local Economy
This week, I joined members of the Shakopee Chamber of Commerce to connect on our shared small business priorities and how I can better support economic development in #MN02 in Congress. Great to see you!
Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig:
This week, I’m once again taking you behind the scenes in my office in DC. When the President signs a bill into law, Members who wrote and advocated for that policy will often receive a signed copy. That’s why, right now, I have a copy of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law hanging in my office in Washington. It’s a constant reminder of the value of hard work and bipartisanship – and what we can accomplish when we work together!
It’s been a great couple of weeks in Minnesota connecting with constituents and hearing more about what you’d like to see in Washington. I’m headed back to DC next week to continue my work to lower costs, expand access to health care, build safer communities and protect your freedoms and rights.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
