John, Trump’s irresponsible policy towards endangered species has just been reversed by a federal judge.
This has real policy implications for species that had their statuses denied or simply ignored under the Trump Administration, such as gray wolves and northern spotted owls. But the long-term damage that almost befell these populations should not be swept under the rug.
Trump’s policies unfairly privileged private corporate interests and lowered standards of protection for some of our most vulnerable American species. He made a choice — business interests over environmental interests. This decision by U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar of California, handed down just last week, will undo most of these policies, so long as it survives the appeals process.
But of course, as with all things regarding the Trump Administration, clearing the books is not a one-person task. It’s taken SEEC members’ staunch advocacy for the health and safety of gray wolves and other endangered species to bridge remaining gaps in policy and push for bold and immediate action on climate. And they’re in need of support.
SEEC members need to keep their seats in order to continue pressuring the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service to protect our wildlife, not the profit of private corporations. They’re committed to this work because they know how important it is — not just for the health of our ecosystems, but for our economy and for our own health as well.
Will you contribute to their work on this, John, and help them stay in Congress to continue advocating for endangered species and undoing the damaging policies of the Trump Administration? [[link removed]]
