Let's get something straight: When a U.S. senator participates in an illegal plot to overturn an election, he is dangerous to our democracy and doesn't deserve his job. Not by a long shot.

The House panel investigating the January 6 insurrection has revealed that, moments before Congress met to certify the 2020 election results, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson tried to hand-deliver to Vice President Mike Pence forged documents with a fake pro-Trump slate of electors from Wisconsin and Michigan.

If I'm honest, I'm not surprised because Ron Johnson has peddled lies on everything from election integrity to the coronavirus pandemic. His brand of politics continues to threaten the very fabric of our democracy.

But there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

My friend Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin's lieutenant governor and a champion of working people, is running to defeat Ron Johnson this November.

He fights from the heart, so he's the type of fighter we urgently need on Capitol Hill, and I'm very happy to support his campaign to unseat Ron Johnson and become Wisconsin's next senator.

The race is currently deemed a "toss-up." Mandela's our best chance to send Ron Johnson packing, and the Democratic primary is just weeks away. So we can't wait a moment longer to build the momentum we're going to need to win this thing.

Will you make a donation to Mandela's campaign? 100% of your donation will go directly to his campaign.

Mandela has been a longtime progressive champion and has spent his career fighting for working-class people in Wisconsin.

Mandela is leading with a vision where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they were born or where they live. He understands that we need big, structural change in this country to make it work for everyone, not just the wealthy and well connected.

And he's fighting from the heart for hardworking families like his own. His mom was a Milwaukee school teacher, and his dad worked the third shift at the General Motors plant. Those were solid, middle-class jobs—the kind of jobs that could support a family.

But today, the middle class is shrinking, and working families are being squeezed to their breaking point. Meanwhile, the wealthiest people and biggest corporations have never had it so good.

With Mandela in the Senate, we will work together to root out corruption in Washington and create a government that works for working people. But it's going to take all of us to build a winning campaign.

I would be honored to have Mandela as a colleague fighting for the people. So, if you're ready to elect Mandela Barnes to the U.S. Senate, I am asking you today:

Will you contribute to Mandela's campaign for U.S. Senate if you can? Together, we can defeat Ron Johnson and flip this Senate seat—but only if we fight hard.
