Even More Proud to Be an American this Independence Day Now that ‘Roe’ is Gone
By: Nicole Hunt
It was the first Fourth of July since Roe v. Wade was rightly overturned, constitutional order has been restored, and justice has finally been served for the more than 63 million babies who have lost their lives to the tragedy of abortion in the last 49 years. This Independence Day, I was moved with even more gratitude for this wonderful country that I am blessed to call home because I was reminded again of America’s exceptionalism.
America is the only country in the world that was founded on an idea – virtuous freedom. Freedom to do the right thing. It’s what sets her apart and makes her a beacon of light. It’s what makes her exceptional among all nations. She hasn’t always gotten it right, but when she gets it wrong, she adjusts course and continues to be, as Lincoln put it, “the last best hope on earth.”

‘Lightyear’ Bombs at Box Office Proving to Disney That Parents Don’t Want Propaganda
By: Zachary Mettler
What happens when a woke corporation (Disney) tries to push homosexuality in children’s movies?
Parents push back, and the movie becomes a “box-office bomb.”
That’s what happened recently with Pixar Animation’s (owned by The Walt Disney Company) most recent children’s movie, Lightyear, which hit theaters nationwide on June 17.
A movie is generally considered a “box-office bomb” when a major studio releases a supposedly highly anticipated and expensive film, which then fails upon release and becomes a net loss for the studio.
To date, Lightyear has grossed $158 million in movie theaters worldwide, of which $94 million is domestic earnings.
That may sound like a lot, but the Walt Disney Co. spent $200 million to produce the film – and that doesn’t even include tens of millions more spent in print and advertising costs.
Now, consider that production companies usually garner around half of the revenue earned at the box office, with the other half going to the theater companies. So, if a movie grosses $200 million at the box office, the production company will receive $100 million.

Don’t Believe the Abortion Activists’ Scare Tactics and Propaganda
By: Paul Batura
In the wake of Friday’s historic reversal of Roe at the Supreme Court, it didn’t take long for abortion activists to begin peddling their propaganda. On social media, at concerts and at rallies and protests, versions of the following warnings and charges began trending:
“So many women and girls are going to die.”
“Women will be beaten and abused.”
“Children are going to be neglected and ignored.”
“Democracy as we know it is over.”
“The Supreme Court is now illegitimate.”
One wonders if those who says these types of things know they’re trading in lies – or are they simply ignorant of the truth, blinded and bolstered by decades of misinformation?
It’s likely a bit of both.
“For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues,” wrote the Psalmist. “They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause. In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer” (109:2-4).
The prophet Jeremiah likened the tongue to a deadly arrow that can speak deceitfully (9:8), and the apostle Paul warned against “wicked deception” (2 Thessalonians 2:10).

Independence Day Barbecue Cost – 17% Increase From Last Year
By: Jeff Johnston
The Daily Citizen doesn’t want to rain on your Independence Day celebration, but the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) marketbasket survey reports that the overall cost for a cookout for 10 people “is up 17% or about $10 from last year.”
The AFBF said the rising costs are “a result of ongoing supply chain disruptions, inflation and the war in Ukraine.”
In a news release, the federation stated:
U.S. consumers will pay $69.68 for their favorite Independence Day cookout foods, including cheeseburgers, pork chops, chicken breasts, homemade potato salad, strawberries and ice cream.
The AFBF says that’s a cookout for 10 people, coming in at a little under $7.00 a person.
Though this writer doesn’t think that 2 pints of strawberries, a half-gallon of ice cream and one bag of chips would really work for that number of folks. Not in our household anyway, with several young men to feed.
The report said the largest increase was for ground beef, “Survey results showed the retail price for 2 pounds of ground beef at $11.12, up 36% from last year.”
Perhaps more families will opt for hot dogs or chicken this year, instead of burgers.

University Rejects Left’s Demand to Cancel Clarence Thomas’ Teaching Contract
By: Bruce Hausknecht
The administration of George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., stood up for principle and rejected demands from its leftist students to cancel the teaching contract of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who is a guest lecturer at its law school.
The latest student brouhaha erupted because of Justice Thomas’ concurring opinion in the Dobbs case overturning Roe v. Wade, in which he questioned the court’s continuing use of a doctrine known as “substantive due process,” a vehicle the court has used over the decades to enshrine so-called “unenumerated rights” into the Constitution.
Such rights, according to the doctrine as it developed in the court’s caselaw, must be “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition,” and “implicit in the concept of ordered liberty.”
In other words, has this “right” been around a long time and does our “liberty” require it?
Since at least 1905, the Supreme Court began using the notion of substantive due process to enshrine a variety of “rights” into the Constitution, including such things as the right to privacy, abortion, interracial marriage, same-sex sexual relations and same-sex “marriage,” even though they are not mentioned in the Constitution.
However, many legal scholars and judges consider substantive due process to be an oxymoron that has been imposed on the 5th and 14th amendments to justify judicial activism.
