Hi John,

Over the weekend I spent some time with one of my favorite people – my mother Peggy Wood, who just turned 90 last fall. 

My mother was born in 1931 and grew up before Roe v. Wade; in a time before women weren’t guaranteed the right to safe and legal abortion. But she made the conscious choice to get involved, serving on the state board of the local Planned Parenthood, knocking doors for candidates, and donating to causes she believed in. She had a real stake in the fight, and she took action whenever she could.

It was thanks to the women who came before us, women like my mother, that our country made determined progress to ensure that women enjoyed the same freedoms as men. 

But now, for the first time in our country's history, that story of linear progress has reversed its course. The Supreme Court has taken away the freedom of half the population.

And it won't end there. Mitch McConnell is threatening a national abortion ban if he takes back the Senate majority.

I know this seems daunting. But we must be inspired by the women who came before us. I'm inspired by my mom, who fought hard for her fundamental freedoms, and who isn't done fighting. 

I won't be intimidated by Mitch McConnell and his anti-choice cronies. I will never stop fighting to reclaim the freedoms we lost.

But I can't do it alone. Extreme GOP groups have spent over $10 million attacking me, and a recent poll is showing me down by 2 points to a Republican opponent. 

If we're going to stop Mitch McConnell's extreme agenda, we need to keep this seat blue. Every single dollar helps me and if you can send $3 right now it will make a big difference. I hope that I can count on your support.
