Hi,

Joe Biden just cut a deal with Mitch McConnell to appoint a far-right
anti-abortion extremist to a lifetime position as a federal judge.
Democratic leaders and abortion rights groups are furious. And they're
right to be.

Just days after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, news leaked that
Biden promised to give McConnell his far right judge, Chad Meredith, in
exchange for McConnell agreeing to not block some of Biden's future
appointments.^1

It's a terrible deal: an extremist would get a lifetime seat on the
federal bench, in exchange for vague promises that can't be trusted. As
outrage builds over this bad deal, it's time to tell the Senate to reject
it.

The leading voices criticizing this deal are Democrats in Kentucky who
have to live with its consequences.

Governor Andy Beshear and Representative John Yarmuth both called the deal
"indefensible."^2 Yarmuth said he wrote "the strongest text message I have
ever written to anybody" to the White House when he learned about it.^3

"I understand how brutally manipulative Mitch is," Yarmuth said to a
reporter, "but at some point you have to stand up to him. You have to just
confront him and say, 'no, we're not gonna appoint your people. We're not
gonna let Mitch McConnell appoint judges and other federal officials in a
Democratic administration.'"^4

The other voices speaking out against this deal are abortion rights
groups, appalled that Biden would even consider this deal especially after
the Supreme Court's attack on abortion rights.

NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and six other reproductive rights and justice
organizations put out a joint statement called the deal "unacceptable."^5

Now is the time for Senate Democrats to make it clear this deal is dead.
We need them to commit to ensuring Chad Meredith never becomes a federal
judge -- and to tell Biden to make no more deals with McConnell.
