This is one of the longest messages I’ll ever write to you, so I’d truly appreciate it if you could take some time out of your day to read it all the way through.

Supporters like you brought us across the finish line in last Tuesday’s primary – but FiveThirtyEight rates IL-06 one of the closest races in the country.

In a moment, I’m going to outline exactly how we plan to win this battleground district for a third time. But before I do that, I need to ask – will you make a donation of $25 or more to kickstart our momentum in the General Election?

Step 1: Organize in Every Corner of IL-06

I knew this wasn’t going to be easy from the moment I announced my candidacy in 2017. I was a first-time candidate running in a district that Republicans held for an uninterrupted half-century.

But our team worked days, nights, and weekends, speaking with voters of all political backgrounds. In the end, it was enough to overcome millions in outside spending and 46 years of Republican control.

Thanks to thousands of grassroots donors like you, we spoke to voters in every corner of the district, ran digital and TV ads, and hired phenomenal staff. Without your investment in my campaign, it wouldn't have been possible to flip this seat. And without you, it won’t be possible to defend it, either.


Step 2: Put People First, Not Special Interests

Here’s the thing: running for Congress would be a lot easier if I threw my integrity out the window and sold out to special interests in exchange for a steady stream of campaign donations.

Instead, I’ve shut my door to the gun lobby and stood up to giant pharmaceutical companies since the beginning.

My right-wing challenger is relying on special interests and dark-money groups to fund his campaign. But I’m not interested in shortcuts at the expense of our community and our values.

In a race as close as this one, the right thing to do is not always the easy thing. That’s why I’m counting on supporters like you to power this movement.


Step 3: Block Out the Noise, Focus on the Real Issues

I won swing voters in 2018 by ignoring the pointless political games and concentrating on real issues that impact real families in our district.

My background in science means that I’m committed to developing the most effective, evidence-based federal policies. The result is lower costs, clearer results, and and greater progress.

We need to prove that this campaign has the resources to defeat the GOP’s millions. Will you chip in $25 or whatever you can to help us gain a foothold in our critical battleground race?
