It all started with one woman. Who saw the injustice around her and set out to change the world. She saw potential where others saw inability. She united people through the joy of sport. She believed inclusion, not exclusion, was the only way to move our society forward.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver didn’t just create Special Olympics. She challenged the world to give people with intellectual disabilities (ID) the rights and acceptance that they deserve. Sunday would have been her 101st birthday and we want to celebrate the movement she ignited and the woman who started it all.
How much do you know about our founder and the revolution for inclusion that started in her backyard? Put your noggin to the test and take our Special Olympics History Quiz.
Eunice is an inspiration to us all at Special Olympics, and her vision continues to drive our movement forward.
Thank you for celebrating and honoring her legacy,
The Special Olympics Team
