Dear Michigander,?

The fall of "Roe v. Wade "is leaving many Michiganders with questions about their access to healthcare. Women deserve to have control over decisions about their bodies and their lives, and that?s why this week, I joined the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to launch a public education campaign to inform people about the important differences between emergency contraception and medication abortion.??

Emergency contraction and medication abortion are completely different medications used for entirely different purposes. Both are currently legal in Michigan. But there is a lot of confusion, and so it?s critical that we launch this new public effort to give women and families the best, most accurate information about these medications.??

In addition to knowing this crucial medication information, Michiganders need to know that they can access the reproductive healthcare and prescription medication they need. That is why this week, I wrote to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security, urging them to immediately issue guidance clarifying that no legal obstacle prevents Michiganders from seeking reproductive healthcare in Canada or from bringing medications prescribed by a Canadian healthcare professional back into the United States. ?

I will continue fighting like hell to protect access to abortion and other reproductive care in Michigan, and I encourage the federal government to pull out all the stops to ensure Michiganders can access care in Canada if they choose to. In this perilous, precarious moment for women?s fundamental rights, we need to be creative and take bold action. We must lead.?
