Boris Johnson Resigns as Great Britain’s Prime Minister

Daily Wire: Great Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson will resign, after scores of government ministers had quit and advised him to do so. On Wednesday, Johnson, the head of Great Britain’s Conservative party (Tory party), met with Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, whom Johnson had appointed only on Tuesday after his predecessor Rishi Sunak had stepped down. Two possibilities exist; Johnson may stay in office until a new leader is chosen or he may step down from the position. Speculation has arisen that former Prime Minister Theresa May could serve as a temporary replacement until a successor is chosen (Daily Wire). New York Post: Johnson vowed Thursday to stay in office until the Conservatives choose a new party leader, a process that could last months. Some lawmakers said that was not soon enough and insisted that Johnson immediately hand over power to his deputy, Dominic Raab. “As well as resigning as party leader the PM must resign his office,” Tory parliamentary deputy Nick Gibb said. “After losing so many ministers, he has lost the trust and authority required to continue.” At least 10 top officials are said to be vying to succeed Johnson, including newly resigned Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and junior trade minister Penny Mordaunt. A snap YouGov poll found that Wallace was the favorite among Conservative Party members to replace Johnson, followed by Mordaunt and Sunak (New York Post). Nigel Farage: I have been warning about Boris Johnson because you see, you have a thing in America called RINOs, right? And we’ve had a very similar phenomenon here because Johnson rode off the wave of Brexit. I mean, he wouldn’t even been prime minister if I hadn’t done what I’d done. And he gets elected with a big majority to govern the country, he gets elected as a conservative and hey, guess what? He governs as a liberal (Daybreak Daily).

Army Training Requires Men Must Shower with Trans Men Even if They Have Not Yet Transitioned

The woke military initiative is transforming us into a laughingstock. Breitbart: An Army training slide obtained by Breitbart News instructs soldiers to shower with transgender members of the opposite sex even if they have not undergone a surgical transition. The training slide offers a “vignette” instructing soldiers on what to do if they encounter a female soldier who identifies as male according to the Department of Defense’s personnel tracking system known as Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), but has not surgically transitioned and still has “female genitalia” (Breitbart). Daybreak Daily: Officer Tatum takes time out to set the record straight: Facts first, feelings second. Discipline. Hard work. Speak truth. Build character (Twitter).

Texas Governor Abbott Instructs State Authorities to Return Illegal Immigrants to Border

Daily Wire: Texas military and law enforcement forces will begin returning illegal migrants to the U.S. border, potentially setting up a legal battle with the Biden administration. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) issued an executive order on Thursday authorizing the Texas Department of Public Safety and the National Guard to arrest migrants caught entering the state illegally along the U.S.-Mexico border and transport them to ports of entry. Under federal law, only federal agents are empowered to enforce immigration law (Daily Wire). Governor Abbott: “While President Biden refuses to do his job and enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress, the State of Texas is once again stepping up and taking unprecedented action to protect Americans and secure our southern border,” said Governor Abbott. “The cartels have become emboldened and enriched by President Biden’s open border policies, smuggling in record numbers of people, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl. I have authorized the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety to begin returning illegal immigrants to the border to stop this criminal enterprise endangering our communities,” continued Governor Abbott. “As the challenges on the border continue to increase, Texas will continue to take action to address those challenges caused by the Biden Administration” (Texas.gov).

Biden Administration Suffers From a Crisis of Confidence

Marked by massive turnover in the White House, lack of communication with allies and out of touch comments made by both President and VP. ABC: A week notable for the relative absence of Joe Biden from the national conversation has been filled, in part, by Democratic grumbling about the White House and about who could fill any perceived void. Biden was in campaign mode in classic-battleground Ohio on Wednesday. He was there not to attack inflation or join the fight on abortion rights or gun control but to tout progress on protecting pension plans — a vanishing benefit that’s critical to labor unions but not many other core constituencies in 2022. What he has been hearing back in Washington, on the day the White House announced that communications director Kate Bedingfield will be leaving her post, has been about terrible polling numbers and souring perceptions of his ability to turn things around for his party in the next four months (ABC). Ed Morrissey: This is, in effect, the final phase of a massive collapse in confidence and credibility. Democrat voters are beginning to pull away from Biden now, and with them any hope of midterm Democratic incumbents from getting the kind of turnout they need to survive. In retrospect, it’s easy to see from polling that the disastrous and craven retreat/rout from Afghanistan triggered a confidence-crisis cascade among the general electorate. I predicted as much in September of last year when polls suddenly put Biden broadly underwater, which meant that his credibility on other issues had been damaged, if not destroyed entirely. And then inflation made that collapse even worse, thanks to Biden’s continued efforts to find someone — anyone — to blame other than himself. That, combined with a complete inability to plan strategically or prepare for the obvious consequences of Biden’s policy choices have sapped the rest of the remaining confidence out of independent voters over the last few months (HotAir).

UK Seizes Iranian Ship Smuggling “Sophisticated” Missiles to Houthi Rebels in Yemen

Fox News: The U.K. announced Thursday it had seized “sophisticated” Iranian missiles from smugglers in the Gulf of Oman earlier this year in what officials have pointed to as proof Tehran is supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen. With assistance provided by the U.S. Navy, the Royal Navy HMS Montrose completed two separate seizures from smugglers operating speed boats off the coast of Iran on Jan. 28 and Feb 25. In direct violation of a 2015 arms embargo enforced by the UN Security Council, the smugglers were found to have been carrying “dozens of packages” containing surface-to-air missiles and engines for land-attack cruise missiles (Fox News). Times of Israel: The British government statement is striking in that it provided some of the strongest findings to date that Tehran is arming the Houthis against the Saudi-led military coalition with advanced weapons smuggled through the Persian Gulf. The UK Embassy in the United Arab Emirates described the seizure of surface-to-air-missiles and engines for land attack cruise missiles as “the first time a British naval warship has interdicted a vessel carrying such sophisticated weapons from Iran” (Times of Israel).

Confidence in the Presidency Dwindles, Inflation Surges and Biden Continues Blaming Putin

When in doubt, blame Putin! Washington Post: The American people’s confidence in the presidency has plummeted 15 points on President Biden’s watch — falling to 23 percent, according to a new Gallup poll, its lowest point on record. One of the many reasons for this collapse is the worst inflation in four decades. And Biden learned this week that inflation is probably not going to ease anytime soon — because Americans have barely touched the trillions in excess savings they have built up, thanks in large part to his catastrophic American Rescue Plan. One of the main reasons inflation is skyrocketing is because Biden’s first act as president was to pass nearly $1.9 trillion in social spending disguised as pandemic relief — sending millions of Americans stimulus checks, providing the largest child tax credit payments ever, and extending ludicrously generous unemployment supplements that paid many Americans more to stay home than to work. The additional spending was completely unnecessary. Congress had just passed a $900 billion economic stimulus package in December 2020, on top of all the earlier covid-19 relief measures Congress had approved (Washington Post). Townhall: DOOCY: Why do you think 88% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track? KJP: “The president understands what the American people are going through. He understands that gas prices are high because of Putin’s tax hike” (Twitter).

Two Officials with Ties to Homeland Security Part of Group Charged with Spying on Behalf of China

Reuters: U.S. prosecutors charged two men tied to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as part of what federal law enforcement officials have called a “transnational repression scheme” on behalf of the Chinese government to spy on and harass dissidents living in the United States. Asked for comment, a spokesman for China’s embassy in Washington said it was “not aware of the specific situation” but that Beijing “firmly opposes acts by the U.S. that groundlessly malign and smear China.” The two men charged were Craig Miller, who has worked as a DHS deportation officer for 15 years in Minnesota, and Derrick Taylor, a retired DHS law enforcement agent now working as a private investigator in California, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Thursday. On Wednesday, a grand jury returned an indictment charging the two men and three others with crimes committed while acting as alleged Chinese agents, the department said in a statement (Reuters). Daily Wire: Miller allegedly deleted text messages between himself and Taylor while being questioned by authorities, and Taylor supposedly instructed an associate to withhold evidence from the FBI. Miller and Taylor have been charged with obstruction of justice, and Taylor has additionally been charged with making false statements to the FBI… The accused, if convicted, face decades in prison, with possible sentences for the defendants ranging between 20-30 years. (Daily Wire).

Derek Chauvin Sentenced to 21 years for Civil Rights Violations Against George Floyd

Reuters: Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted last year of murdering George Floyd, was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in prison on separate federal charges of violating Floyd’s civil rights during the deadly May 2020 arrest, with the judge calling the ex-cop’s actions unconscionable. Chauvin, who pleaded guilty to the federal charges in December, already is serving a sentence of 22-1/2 years in a Minnesota prison for Floyd’s murder after a trial in state court last year. The federal sentence will run concurrently and will see Chauvin moved to a federal prison (Reuters).

Leftist Soccer Player Megan Rapinoe Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Seattle Times: OL Reign and USWNT star Megan Rapinoe received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden on Thursday morning. Rapinoe traveled to the White House to receive the medal, which is considered the nations’ highest civilian honor. She’s the first-ever soccer player and sixth-ever female athlete to receive the honor (Seattle Times). NBC: Biden named 17 recipients of the honor last Friday, also including Steve Jobs, John McCain and Denzel Washington… Rapinoe, an Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion, is a prominent advocate for gender pay equality, racial justice and LGBTQI+ rights (NBC). Katie Pavlich: While there’s no doubt Rapinoe is one of the best female athletes in the world, she also hates the United States of America. She has repeatedly stood on foreign soil while refusing to participate in the National Anthem before games — all while representing Team USA (Townhall).
