Andrew Gounardes: Democrat For New York

Friend,

The CUNY system in our city is one of the most powerful engines of economic mobility in the country. As a proud CUNY graduate and now adjunct professor, I know firsthand the value of a quality, public college education as well as the financial obstacles that students face when completing their degree.

Because of the financial burden on students, only 55% of undergraduate students make it to graduation. As tuition steadily rises, with additional hikes in the future, New York State invests less and less in CUNY every year, closing doors for students to high paying jobs in specialized fields.

New York is losing future leaders because of the burden we place on students by failing to invest in our public colleges and universities. It’s time for our state to embrace a 21st century vision of public education, where CUNY is fully funded and all students graduate without paying a dime in tuition and fees. You can read more about my commitment to give all New Yorkers access to a free public education here.

I look forward to a future where CUNY is the world class institution we know it can and should be, and higher education is a reality for all. You should too.

Best,

Andrew
