Friend,
I have never been afraid to go against the grain to do the right thing. In fact, I have realized that more often than not, you need to go against the grain in order to do the right thing. And that can be a difficult thing to accept.
Recently, a member of the media made a comment about black conservatives. To paraphrase her statement, she said that the idea of a Black Republican “did not make sense” to her.
I really have nothing against her or her statement. However, I take issue with the principle behind her statement. The subtle message that being a Republican somehow disqualifies an African American man or woman from being an effective legislator.
This is NOT the case at all!
Comments like that one, attempt to sweep the positive results of Republican policies under the rug and parrot the outdated talking points of the partisan left.
So ma’am, with all due respect, it does not matter whether you understand my politics or not. Because if you can’t understand my politics, evaluate my results.
With the help of my colleagues, many of them Republicans, we were able to accomplish the following:
-
Record low unemployment
-
The beginning of Opportunity Zones
-
Permanent funding for HBCUs for the first time
Friend, the Democrats don’t want you to know that Trump, America First era Republicans were able to provide tangible solutions to issues facing all Americans. They would rather distract you with comments about race and party affiliation.
The success Republicans saw during the Trump era can be continued if we take back the Senate, but we will need Conservatives everywhere to stand with us and chip in whatever they can.
Together we can show America that focusing on opportunity, not optics, can make the American Dream accessible to all who dare to strive for it.
Thank you,
Tim Scott
