John, the war in Ukraine is worsening the existing global food crisis, putting millions more children at risk of famine. As we approach the height of summer, extreme weather conditions are making this situation even more dire.

* Across the Horn of Africa, a two-year drought has 7.1 million childrenwaking up each day at risk of acute food insecurity. We have worked in the area for the past 70 years providing nutritious food, medical care and child protection, but this crisis is unprecedented.

* Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, child hunger has skyrocketed in the United States. Our teams delivered nearly 9 million mealsacross rural America when schools were shuttered, and we continue to work to address poverty and hunger throughout the U.S.

* 2.5 million Ukrainian refugee childrenare at severe risk of hunger. Our emergency response teams are providing lifesaving resources and care and will remain in the region as long as it takes to help children recover from this crisis.
