Hi —

The deadline for passing a state budget has come and gone.

Unfortunately, far right legislators are holding this process hostage and continue to refuse to make the kind of investments that Pennsylvanians deserve, despite a massive budget surplus.

We are this close to winning major investments in programs that preserve open space and protect the health and safety of Pennsylvania families – we need your voice if we’re going to win.

Right now , please join thousands of Pennsylvanians and urge your state lawmakers to use some of that surplus to upgrade the systems that provide our drinking water, maintain our parks, address flooding, and clean up abandoned mines. [[link removed]]

Thanks for all that you do.

Hi —

It’s late June and that means there are only a few days left before the legislature is set to vote on the budget.

Pennsylvania is still sitting on billions of dollars in federal stimulus funds because Republicans refused to spend it on critical priorities. We are optimistic about finally winning some landmark investments on programs that preserve open space and protect the health and safety of Pennsylvania families, but we can’t let up now!

We’re down to the wire. Please send an urgent message to your lawmakers asking them to use the billions in surplus to upgrade the systems that provide our drinking water, maintain our parks, address flooding, and clean up abandoned mines [[link removed]] .

We’re calling for investments in two budget items that will benefit communities across the state.

Funding Growing Greener III : Growing Greener is a longtime successful program that has helped to slash the backlog of farmland-preservation projects statewide; protect open space; eliminate the maintenance backlog in state parks; clean up abandoned mines and restore watersheds; provide funds for recreational trails and local parks; help communities address land use; and provide new and upgraded water and sewer systems. But without enough funding to meet all the challenges facing our communities, we need to keep up investment for years to come with a Growing Greener III program.
Investing in our state agencies that enforce environmental rules and maintain our parks: The budgets of the departments of Environmental Protection and Conservation and Natural Resources have been slashed in recent years and both agencies have had to drastically downsize. DEP and DCNR cannot do their jobs of cleaning up our water, maintaining our 121 parks and forests, and addressing environmental injustices throughout the Commonwealth without full funding.

Now’s the time to help as budget negotiations get underway.

Urge your lawmakers to include funding for Growing Greener, DEP, and DCNR in the state budget [[link removed]]
Your voice can ensure Pennsylvania’s environment is protected in the face of the climate crisis.

Thanks for all that you do.
