In 2015, member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The UN annually evaluates progress toward these goals at its High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). This year, the HLPF is reviewing the progress made in realizing SDG4 - “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
Education is a game-changer for children, opening up life-changing possibilities for health, employment, gender equality, and more. In child-protection work, schools often provide a safe space for youth, giving students access to positive support systems and inclusive and safe education for groups who face marginalization and discrimination.
ECPAT-USA’s Youth Education Department has been working with schools, educators, and support staff since 2015 to raise awareness of the issue of the commercial sexual exploitation of children and advocate for measures that strengthen prevention and protection from child trafficking; hence the “p” in quality and equitable education.
Our HLPF side event panel will focus on successful, grassroots initiatives to protect children that can be replicated by other schools and communities, including ECPAT-USA’s Youth Against Child Trafficking program. Register now.
