The last several weeks have been devastating for many people across our country, John.

After the Supreme Court ripped away the constitutional right to reproductive freedom, it’s now up to the states to determine whether women get reproductive health care. And in North Carolina, they still can.

Yesterday, Planned Parenthood National President Alexis McGill Johnson joined me in Raleigh to discuss the critical need for continued access to these services, especially now that North Carolina is set to be one of the only states in our region where legal abortion is protected.

I signed Executive Order 263 which takes action to help assure access to reproductive health services in North Carolina:

● This Order will help protect North Carolina doctors and nurses and their patients from cruel, right-wing criminal laws passed by other states.
● It will help coordinate health care access.
● And it will help ensure that local police are enforcing our state law that prevents anyone from obstructing or barring access to a health care facility.

Next, we need to elect pro-choice Democrats up and down the ballot this November. We cannot afford Republican supermajorities in Raleigh that would override my veto and push through an outright ban on abortion care.

John, re-electing people like Sydney Batch and Linda Cooper-Suggs and electing candidates like Val Applewhite, Mary Willis Bode, Valerie Jordan, Amy Block DeLoach, Laura Budd, and Christy Clark is critical. They are exactly the kinds of voices I need fighting alongside me in Raleigh. They’re committed to doing whatever it takes to keep abortion services legal and accessible in our state, and they will help hold the line against Republican control of our legislature. They’re also all up for election in November.
