While we did not make the top two outright, we are proud of the work we did to ensure that our communities had a say in this election.
A true representative democracy means having the best candidates make it to the top two, not just the candidates who have the most money or political favors to cash in. Unfortunately, in this race, the candidates with the most resources, not the most qualified or community focused, won.
This is unacceptable.
That is why, after much consideration, we have decided to move forward with our campaign as a write-in candidate for the 2022 general election.
In order for Southeast LA to have fair representation, we need leaders who understand the everyday struggles of all constituents. We need leaders who are in this fight for the right reasons, not to advance their own political careers. We need leaders who will stand up for what is right, especially when establishment Democrats fail to act on important issues like passing immigration reform, protecting reproductive rights, canceling all student loan debt, saving our planet, and providing much needed economic relief to working class families.
We aren't naive. We know this will be an uphill battle, but like our community, we are resilient and we will persevere. We, la gente, will be the ones who decide who represents us. And as always, we will go forward con ganas y sin miedo.
