We Won’t Go Back Rally

On Saturday, July 16th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. there will be a rally at Riverview Park in Sebastian.  This is an effort to join together and protest the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Gun Violence, Climate Change, the insurrection at the Capitol, and celebrating Human Rights and Equality for All.  Bring signs, water, flags etc.  We hope to see you there!

This week the newsletter is going to be highlighting some important election information.  It is critical that you vote in the primary on August 23rd.  Major decisions about state Democratic leadership will be decided, along with our local school board race.

Consider a Monthly Donation

Are you frustrated and tired of the attacks on our democracy?  How about the recent state legislative actions that are reversing progress on voting and women’s rights? We will not stand by idly as our state and democracy is dismantled. Defending the rights of Indian River County and Floridian citizens through voter outreach, voter education, and candidates is our mission. But we need you! For the price of coffee and a scone at Starbucks, your monthly donation can help keep our office open and staffed to accomplish our goals.  Please consider signing up to be a monthly donor to allow us to continue the vital work necessary.  You can donate here or on our website:

School Board Candidate Forum

Commissioner Peter O’Bryan is hosting a School Board candidate forum on Monday July 11th.  If our public education system is important to you, please attend.

ASKS OF THE WEEK

1. Last week we asked you to come to the office and pick up a Cindy Gibbs for School Board yard sign to put in your yard or business.  Only 3 people did.  We need to show our support for our candidates.  Please put a sign in your yard, they are free.

2. We have more postcards!  Come to the office and pick up a packet of 50 postcards to mail to potential voters for Cindy.  We provide the names and addresses and the postcards. We would appreciate the in-kind donation of standard postcard stamps.

School Board Candidate - Cindy Gibbs

The most important thing to do right now is to knock on doors for Cindy.  We knock on our neighbors’ doors, say a few words about the upcoming election and Cindy’s qualifications for the position of School Board Member, and then leave a card or a door hanger with them.

Sign up here to canvass every Tuesday evening in Vero Beach with Cindy here:
https://www.mobilize.us/indianrivercountydec/event/464496/

Sign up here to canvass every Thursday evening in Sebastian with Cindy here:

https://www.mobilize.us/indianrivercountydec/event/474259/

If you don’t want to canvass, we have door hangers you can hang on neighborhood doors.  You can pick some up at the Democratic office.

Donate! Cindy’s campaign can accept donations of up to $1,000 for both the primary election (up to August 23rd) and then again before the November 8th general election.  Use this actblue link:
https://secure.actblue.com/donate/cynthia-gibbs-for-school-board-1
and share it with your friends, family and neighbors. Checks can be written to Cynthia Gibbs Campaign Account for up to $1,000.

DEMOCRATS OF INDIAN RIVER

Democratic Women’s Club

The DWC has been trying to establish a presence at the Taxpayer’s Association monthly luncheon. However, the venue for the monthly luncheon has been changed to the Vero Beach Yacht Club on the first Friday of the month.
The food is now served buffet style.
The next meeting on Friday, August 5th will feature a forum of candidates running for Indian River County School Board, so may be of general interest.
The meetings are open to the public and theoretically non-partisan.  Reservations may be made via their website up to 48 hours in advance of each meeting.

The DWC Book Group will continue to meet for the summer months at the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street in the first-floor meeting room.
The book selection for July will be discussed on July 22 at 2:00-4:00 pm: “The Great Dissenter: The Story of John Marshall Harlan, America’s Judicial Hero” by author Peter Canellos.
Any questions about the book group can be addressed to Maryann and Rita at
[email protected]

The Book Group just celebrated its 10th year Anniversary!

Young Democrats of the Treasure Coast

On Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m., the Treasure Coast Young Democrats are holding their monthly membership meeting at American Icon Brewery, located at 1133 19th Place, in downtown Vero Beach. Membership is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 40, but anyone of any age is welcome, and encouraged to attend. Confirmed guest speakers are Karen Wynn Greb, who is running for State House in District 34, as well as District 8 Congressional candidates Danelle Dodge and Joanne Terry. We are currently working on getting a 4th speaker, a representative from Planned Parenthood, to speak on the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and what is next in the fight for abortion rights and access to healthcare for women.

TRAININGS

Online, two-day candidate and campaign team training - July 9 & 10, 1-5 p.m. both days. Cost/Tickets $35

Kevin Winchell, Trainer

Dates and Times: The workshop will be divided into two sections, and will therefore be held over two days: Saturday July 9 from 1:00-5:00pm, and Sunday July 10 from 1:00-5:00pm. (Ignore the fact that Eventbrite only has it listed as being on Saturday July 9; Eventbrite doesn't allow for two-part events, for some reason.) Different information will be covered on each day, so registrants are expected to attend both days. (If you have to step out for a little while to take care of something, that's okay; we'll send everyone a recording of the training so you don't miss a thing.)

Topics: Topics include campaign messaging, voter psychology, campaign strategy, budgeting and needs identification, fundraising and asset mapping, volunteer recruitment and management, voter outreach and get-out-the-vote operations, traditional and social media prioritization, and campaign data and analytics. We'll share examples and templates that will make it easier to understand and complete the campaign planning process for your own campaign. BONUS: will include best-practices for campaigning during COVID - including tips for gathering petitions, online organizing, conducting voter outreach, and fundraising.
