Dear Friends,
A new and very disturbing stage has begun in the crackdown on journalists in Belarus, involving practices that constitute a flagrant violation of international law. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is appalled by these methods and calls for them to stop at once.
Journalists and media professionals are now being subjected to psychological torture and Stalinist methods, including being forced to make public confessions and denounce colleagues. This is the new strategy employed by Alexander Lukashenko’s regime to eradicate independent media in Belarus.
The authorities are leaving no space for press freedom and no possibility for journalists to be safe. We are outraged by the shocking nature of this mistreatment and we call on the Belarusian authorities to stop arresting and humiliating journalists who are just doing their job.
A total of 32 media professionals are currently detained in Belarus and the violent persecution of journalists launched in 2020 is continuing. They need your help.
