I just landed in DC after spending the last several days at the international climate conference in Madrid as part of an important bicameral congressional delegation.
Led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, we went to the COP25 climate negotiations to see the impact of Donald Trump's awful decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
Climate change has been an existential threat to our planet for decades. But Donald Trump, along with his GOP enablers and corrupt cabinet members, has managed to make things exponentially worse over the course of his presidency.
Probably his most egregious action has been the decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, which will be official the day after next year’s election. This move makes America the only nation in the world to leave this groundbreaking agreement. Many other nations have ambitious plans to reduce emissions that are now on hold until they figure out what America will do next.

With Trump’s decision to leave the Paris Climate Accord, the United States has gone from leading the global effort to stop the dangerous impacts of climate change to becoming a major impediment to progress.
This is just one more example of Donald Trump putting the interests of big business, oil companies, and corporate polluters ahead of the best interests of the American people. We see this in his efforts to block California's clean car standards, and his rejection of the Clean Power Plan.
Trump’s shortsightedness and refusal to look at the clear scientific evidence proving the need for immediate action to halt climate change is putting all of our lives in peril. We can’t let him get away with it.
