Journalist Mehdi Hasan said, in reference to another BNC representative, “When you elect people who come from very different backgrounds than most other members of Congress, you get very different tactics – and very different results.”

And John, Brand New Congress reps are certainly bringing different tactics to Washington.

After SCOTUS overturned Roe, Democratic leadership doubled down on fundraising texts and telling people to “go vote.”

But Jamaal Bowman sent a clear message to the administration and Congress about actions they can and must take TODAY to protect abortion rights.

A screenshot of a tweet from BNC Representative Jamaal Bowman, sent Jun 27, 2022. The tweet reads: “POTUS is able to do several things to protect abortion rights. 1. Create abortion clinics on federal land, 2. Declare a public health emergency, 3. Pressure the Senate to end the filibuster so we can codify Roe v. Wade”

Jamaal has been a consistent voice pressuring the Senate to abolish the Jim Crow filibuster and pass critical legislation.

Last January, he was arrested outside the U.S. Capitol building alongside 20 other activists on a hunger strike calling on the Senate to act on voting rights. Rep. Bowman was the only member of Congress present.

Behind him are several activists protesting for an end to the Senate filibuster. One is holding a sign that reads “Justice matters more than Senate rules” with the hashtag “Lawyers For Voting Rights”.

Leadership requires action, John. While the Senate continues to stall on voting rights legislation, reproductive justice, climate bills, and so much more, Jamaal has consistently been on the front lines pushing for results.

Jamaal is up for re-election next month, and we need to have his back the way he always has ours. Dark money groups are spending big to defeat progressives this year – including our elected BNC representatives. Will you split a contribution between Brand New Congress and Jamaal’s campaign now?

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. We invest EARLY to help grassroots candidates succeed. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020 alongside Jamaal Bowman and Rashida Tliab. And we have our first win of 2022: Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won her primary by FIVE votes thanks to BNC.

We have elections from now until November, and our candidates are counting on your support. Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
