Apologies for the long note, but I need to level with you, team.

First, some hard truths: Building an organization from the ground up while you’re staring down an election that’s four months away puts you constantly behind the 8 ball.

When you add to it that our mission is to take on the MAGA machine, it’s a steep uphill battle from the get-go. And for us Democrats, there are seemingly endless crises to tackle, and too many causes to support. It’s awful, it’s stressful, and frankly, I don’t blame anyone for feeling pulled in competing directions.

I believe with all of my heart that the threat to our democracy from the likes of Donald Trump is bigger than anything I’ve taken on in my career. They want power, and they will stop at nothing to get it.

It’s terrifying to watch them slowly get a foothold -- as “America First” candidates win the nomination for secretary of state in battlegrounds like Michigan, Nevada, and New Mexico. If they win those seats, I have no doubt they’ll each be getting marching orders from Mar-a-Lago.

Our democracy is only as strong as the people willing to protect it. I refuse to get cynical. And as you know, I refuse to let setbacks shut me down. If thugs are going to try to strongarm their way into power, I refuse to sit back and let it happen.

Right now, I’m building this team to fight back. Our plan is to start reaching voters in a handful of these battleground states in the next few weeks, and I want to make sure we can make good on that commitment.

I’ve made up my mind. I’m all in.

But this is a decision each of us has to make for ourselves. So, will you chip in to fund this grassroots effort to take on and defeat Trump’s hand-picked candidates for secretary of state?
