John, the NDRC has helped secure major victories this redistricting cycle. It wouldn't have been possible without this grassroots team, so I wanted to take a moment to show our top supporters what you helped us get done.
But first, I need to emphasize that our work to end gerrymandering and defend democracy is not over — not by a long shot. So, if you're able, will you make a contribution to help power the next phase of the NDRC's work?

Here's what our grassroots movement accomplished:
- We helped implement reforms that helped to cut Republican map-drawing power by more than 20 percent. Before the first districts were even drawn, independent redistricting commissions and other reforms helped ensure fairness.
- As a result, the number of Democratic-leaning congressional seats increased after redistricting, even though Republicans entered the cycle with control over map drawing in more states.
- In fact, Republicans didn't gain any seats from redistricting alone. While the new maps have more Democratic-leaning seats than the old ones, they have the same number of Republican-leaning seats.
- Now, Republicans no longer have an insurmountable popular vote advantage. After Republican gerrymandering in 2010, Democrats had to win the congressional popular vote by as much as 8% to have a shot at the majority. This November, that metric will be closer to 2.5% — a big improvement over the last decade, and much closer to a fair outcome for voters.
- Most importantly, we won these victories with fair maps. In a vast improvement over last decade, 75% of states now have fair congressional maps.

In short, Democrats will enter this decade with more congressional seats than Republicans and in a much stronger position than last decade — and it's thanks to the support of people like you. Now, we need you with us for the next chapter.
The fight for fair maps has always been part of the larger fight to defend democracy. That's why the NDRC is employing the effective model we've developed for redistricting to protect against larger threats to the future of free and fair elections.
We've announced our initial Democracy Targets for the midterm elections — a slate of races where we're investing to help elect pro-democracy candidates and defeat map manipulators, 2020 election deniers, and their allies. It's an aggressive strategy, and we're counting on your support to execute it.
Will you pitch in to our fight to defend democracy?
