The Postal Service felt the backlash we helped create — let's keep the momentum going

Dear Friend,
After spending months lying to the public about its misguided plan to replace its fleet with 90% polluting trucks, the United States Postal Service just announced its intent to conduct a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The SEIS is an opportunity for the Postal Service to redo its flawed analysis, and it comes after more than 75,000 Earthjustice supporters told the Postal Service that its first round of analysis was insufficient.
While we’re relieved the Postal Service heard our roar, this struggle is far from over. The chances are slim that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy had a change of heart about air pollution or the climate crisis – rather, it seems likely the Postal Service is using the SEIS to find new justifications for buying gas guzzlers after its original rationale was refuted.
The deck is stacked against us at the moment, but it’s critical we show that we’re still engaged on this issue so the next generation of Postal Service leadership doesn’t hesitate to do what’s right. Join us in filing a public comment urging the Postal Service to go 100% electric.
The consequences of the status quo are too significant to ignore. Transportation is the largest source of climate pollution in the U.S. and air pollution from fossil fuel vehicles harms people’s health, especially in low-income communities and communities of color where government policies have deliberately concentrated transportation pollution. By upgrading to electric vehicles, the Postal Service can cut dangerous air pollution across the country and help put us on a path to an all-electric, zero-emissions transportation future.
The future is electric, whether or not the Postal Service leadership is willing to admit that. We cannot let them squander this once-in-a-generation opportunity to electrify our postal fleet. Earthjustice and partners are already suing the agency for its failures, but ultimately we need continued public pressure from people like you to get the job done. Please join us in filing a public comment in support of a 100% electric postal fleet.
Sincerely,
Adrian Martinez
Senior Attorney
