CLASP Addresses Women’s Caucus

On December 4, Olivia Golden participated in a Capitol Hill briefing of the Democratic Women’s Caucus for Members of Congress and their staffs. She discussed threats and opportunities for immigrant families, child care, and paid family and medical leave. Olivia also outlined Congressional successes and strategies to strengthen programs that support women and families.

Using Comments as a Policy Lever

As we continue to fight against harmful administrative and regulatory proposals, CLASP is stepping up our public policy engagement. We’ve been particularly active recently with developing comments ranging from a Medicaid waiver proposal in Georgia that would create work-reporting requirements, to a federal proposal to deregulate the very requirements that create quality and affordability in child care, and a move to cut $4.5 billion in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Earlier this year, Madison Allen described the power of public comments in influencing policy.

On December 11, CLASP and the Center for Innovation in Worker Organization at Rutgers University will host a paid sick days webinar for agencies and advocates. We’ll review 2019 victories in the paid sick days movement, discuss challenges and opportunities with implementation and enforcement, and look ahead to successes and potential threats in 2020.

On December 4, Renato Rocha and Rebecca Ullrich presented about the “public charge” rule at a community meeting hosted by Annandale Christian Community for Action.
