Today, I?responded to news that the Prime Minister is finally going to offer his resignation to the Queen:



"Our great country faces huge challenges in the days and weeks ahead, both on the domestic and international stage. Strong leadership is urgently required.



"The Conservative party cannot take months to elect a new leader. It needs to shorten the process to a matter of weeks in the national interest.



"Boris Johnson cannot be trusted to take the important decisions required. A caretaker leader must be appointed immediately, who will not run in a forthcoming leadership election."
