John, despite the fact that most voters in most states support reproductive freedom, more than half of all states have either already banned abortion or are poised to severely limit abortion access:

You might be wondering how lawmakers in so many states can get away with passing draconian laws most of their constituents don’t want. Unfortunately, the answer is simple: Gerrymandering.

Because of gerrymandering, Republicans in swing states have been able to win a majority of state legislative seats while earning only a minority of votes. This gives the GOP power to pass far-right legislation while shielding them from consequences at the ballot box.
That’s why the NDRC is fighting back to defend our democracy. We’ve targeted races in 17 states across the country that will have an impact on the future of fair maps. If we can win these races, we can achieve a future where a majority of voters once again have the power to shape policy in their states – including policy on abortion rights.
