Legalizing cannabis will free up resources in our criminal justice system to take on violent crime. And it couldn’t be clearer that we need those resources right now. Our July 4th weekend shows we are far from the safe communities we all want.

Redirecting resources away from low-level cannabis offenses and towards violent crime should be a priority of the next County Attorney. I’m committed to getting the Hennepin County Attorney’s office and our criminal justice system focused on stopping violent crime.

Tomorrow, I'll be rolling out my plan for public safety in Hennepin County. My main priority on Day One is bringing our county together around a shared vision for public safety, and that focus will be reflected in my plan. I will have more information to share with you tomorrow.

We are safer together, and strong partnerships are how we will make the kind of progress we need to keep our communities safe.
