From Buffalo, to Uvalde, to Highland Park and so many more, mass shootings have become a pervasive problem across the United States, no matter the size, wealth, or demographics of the community. New Mexico suffers from one of the highest rates of gun violence in the country, and our nation is at a breaking point.

We can and must do more to protect our children, families, and loved ones.

While I was endorsed by Giffords — the nationwide organization dedicated to saving lives from gun violence founded by courageous former Representative Gabby Giffords — because I’m ready to support common sense reforms to stop the epidemic of gun violence in Congress, my far-right opponent Rep. Yvette Herrell is opposing any and every measure to save lives.

Herrell voted against both the Protecting Our Kids Act, which would ban the sale and trafficking of high-capacity magazines and promote the use of firearm storage, and the bipartisan Senate gun safety bill that closed the boyfriend loophole, provided funding for mental health and school safety, and more.

Speaking as a hunter and responsible gun owner, I’m deeply disappointed but not surprised that Herrell opposes bipartisan legislation to keep our children and communities safe. She’s more interested in politics than people — we deserve better.

November is our chance to replace do-nothing Republicans like Herrell with leaders who will support popular, commonsense measures to reduce harm and save lives. Until then, join me in calling on Congress to take additional action to stop mass shootings and gun violence now.
