John,

I was saddened to hear the news that we were stricken by yet another fatal mass shooting -- this time over the 4th of July weekend in Highland Park, Illinois. Six Americans were killed, and in the aftermath, we heard reports that many across the country spent their afternoons in fear after mistaking the sound of gunshots for fireworks.

I can’t believe this needs to be said, but our families and children should be able to enjoy community events and parades without fear of a mass shooting.

Last month was historic for gun violence advocates with the passing Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. President Biden signed legislation that enhanced background checks, increased safety at schools, and disarmed domestic abusers. It was a big step forward, but this weekend’s attack was a reminder that our work is far from finished.

It’s important to remember that it was YOUR activism and engagement that has gotten us to this point. We need to continue to garner public support to move the ball forward on policies like an assault weapons ban and additional reforms to save lives:

I appreciate your support,
