John, I know how hard it can be to save for college–especially when your family isn't wealthy. After my parents lost everything when an employee defrauded their company, it was difficult to make ends meet–let alone save for college.
I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to a good school, but I honestly don't know how I would have been able to afford my education otherwise. Because of this, it has been one of my top priorities while in office to ensure that every single student in Delaware has access to higher education.
Since I took office in 2019, my team at the Treasurer's Office has expanded the Delaware 529 College Savings Program, which allows families to invest tax-free dollars into college savings accounts. In the past three years, thousands of students have taken advantage of this program to save for college and vocational training–and we're working hard to make that number higher every day.
