Hey Friend,
The last few weeks have been nothing short of terrifying. Texans no longer have autonomy over their own bodies, facing some of the most restrictive abortion bans in the entire country. Not to mention, SCOTUS further blurred the line between church and state by ruling in favor of teachers leading public school students in prayer. If Texas Democrats don’t win the Governor’s Mansion, I’m genuinely fearful for what the future of this state will look like.
A lot of folks are looking for ways to get involved, and while there are many, I know one thing you could do Friend, on Monday, July 11. My friend Eugene Lee Yang is hosting an event with Beto O’Rourke in San Antonio. They’ll be discussing the most pressing issues facing Texans and how Beto plans to address those challenges once he’s elected Governor. Not to mention there will be live music, great food, and an open bar.

All of the proceeds will go toward Beto O’Rourke and Texas Democrats’ coordinated effort to organize communities, register Texans to vote, fight back against voter suppression, and turn Texas blue. If you can’t join us, would you consider chipping in to this important cause?

One of the most important things we can do right now is stick together and uplift one another. During the most perilous times in our history, it has been community engagement and grassroots support that have given people hope. Now is the time to really show up for each other and make your voices heard -- through volunteering for causes you care about, donating to local organizations, organizing for local candidates, and voting for individuals who are fighting for the people of Texas.
Know that I’m with you in this fight.
Best,
Lou Diamond Phillips
