Hi John,
On Independence Day, a violent shooting took place in Philadelphia where two law enforcement officers were shot during the July 4th concert and fireworks show. That same day, another shooting occurred at a Highland Park, Chicago parade, leaving seven people dead and dozens injured.
This is not what ‘independence’ in America looks like. I am grateful both police officers harmed are recovering well. But it’s outrageous that two mass shootings in public spaces on a day of celebration are becoming the norm.
While I applaud the action Congress took to pass legislation last month, much more must be done to save lives. Gun violence is a public health crisis in America. It’s past time we demand our leaders go further to protect our communities from weapons of war by taking the following steps:
- Hold gun manufacturers accountable
- Ban assault rifles
- Implement universal background checks
We need leaders with the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and pass commonsense gun reform. If you agree, add a donation of any amount to join our campaign today.
